My New York City Experience: Exploring the Best Elopement and Wedding Photography Spots

This October, I had the incredible opportunity to travel to New York City for a Destination Elopement and Wedding Photography Retreat, and let me tell you — I was completely swept away by the energy and charm of this vibrant city. As a photographer specializing in destination weddings and elopements, it was the perfect chance to explore some of the most breathtaking spots in the city, all while refining my craft.

During my time in NYC, I scouted some truly iconic and hidden gems that would make the perfect setting for any couple looking to elope in New York City. From romantic rooftops to stunning parks and everything in between, I can’t wait to share these incredible locations and my experience shooting in each one.

1. Central Park Bethesda Fountain

Location: Central Park Bethesda Fountain Hosts: Into the Style PNB Models: Brendi and Carlo @bobeystyledshoots

If you’ve never been to Central Park, it’s absolutely stunning. I was amazed at how much it didn’t even feel like I was in one of the busiest cities in the United States. For our elopement session, we planned for sunrise to capture the best lighting and beat the crowds around the Bethesda Fountain, which gets busy fast.

Breathtaking Views and Perfect Lighting in Central Park

The lighting was incredible, as were the landscapes. When you enter the area around the Bethesda Fountain, you’ll find so many luxurious spots for photos. One of the best features is the fountain itself, where you can capture incredible sunrise views as the sun peeks through the trees, lighting up the park right over the water. There are also two large sets of stairs that offer great options for walking or sitting photos — a favorite spot among photographers.

Stunning Locations for Photos at Bethesda Fountain and Beyond

Just past the fountain, you’ll find a huge lake (seriously, it still blows my mind that this is in NYC). The lake is surrounded by beautiful paths and trees, especially stunning in the fall. At the back of the lake sits the Loeb Boathouse, which adds an aquatic element to your elopement or engagement session. Around 10 AM, you can rent a boat (first-come, first-served) for a charming, picturesque ride. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even row along with the couple for some fun and unique shots!

The views around the lake are breathtaking, offering a great perspective of the NYC skyline. As you walk (or row) around the lake, you’ll come across the famous Bow Bridge. This bridge is another perfect spot for photos, both on and off the bridge. Just across from it, there’s a path leading to a dock that gives you a wide, stunning shot of the entire bridge — it’s a must for your Central Park elopement photos.

    Picture-Perfect Moments at Bethesda Terrace

Another standout location in Central Park is Bethesda Terrace, located between the two grand staircases near the fountain. The vibe here is absolutely perfect for an elopement, with the sound of a violinist playing under the terrace creating the most romantic atmosphere. This sets the tone for some slow dancing and allows the couple to truly enjoy the moment while I capture every beautiful detail.

The tile work inside the terrace is breathtaking, and the architecture of the building is simply stunning. A heads-up: you’ll definitely want to bring a flash for the darker areas. As a travel wedding and elopement photographer based in Pennsylvania, I can say that Central Park is just a short 3-hour drive or train ride away, and it’s a location I highly recommend for anyone looking for a NYC destination elopement or NYC bridal photos. 10/10.

    2. Top of the Rock: The Ultimate NYC Elopement Experience

Location: Top of the Rock Hosts: Into the Style PNB Models: @angievictoriax

The Top of the Rock is one of New York City’s most iconic locations for an unforgettable elopement, whether you’re planning for sunrise, sunset, or midday. Perched atop 30 Rockefeller Plaza, this observatory offers an unparalleled, panoramic view of the city’s stunning skyline and some of its most recognizable landmarks, including the Empire State Building, Central Park, and the Brooklyn Bridge in the distance.

Imagine standing on the sleek, glass-enclosed observation deck, the city alive below you, as you share a quiet, intimate moment with your significant other. With an awe-inspiring backdrop, it’s the perfect setting for one of the most memorable days of your life.

Why Choose the Top of the Rock for Your NYC Elopement?

As a Pennsylvania-based destination wedding and elopement photographer, I believe Top of the Rock is the ideal location for couples who want an elopement that feels both intimate and grand. The combination of breathtaking views and the atmosphere of the city that never sleeps creates a vibe that’s perfect for couples seeking an unforgettable NYC elopement experience. (Although, fair warning — there might be a few spectators, but let’s be honest, that’s all part of the NYC charm.)

At sunset, the golden hour’s warm glow lights up the skyline, casting a magical hue over the city. This soft lighting makes your photos come to life, while if you’re eloping in the evening, the city’s lights twinkle like stars, giving your photos a timeless and enchanted quality. The Top of the Rock offers both intimate moments and epic views — a perfect blend for an elopement in NYC.

A Modern, Elegant Space for Your Elopement Ceremony

The space itself is modern, sleek, and thoughtfully designed, with features that complement the city views rather than compete with them (because let’s be honest, the view is the star of the show!). Depending on the time of year, you might catch a crisp fall breeze or a cool summer night, adding a touch of adventure to your ceremony. For those who want a hint of greenery, the outdoor terrace with carefully curated garden plants offers a natural contrast to the cityscape — perfect for adding a touch of serenity to your NYC elopement photos.

Capturing Your Intimate Moments at the Top of the Rock

As a travel elopement photographer, my goal is to capture the joy, love, and spontaneity of your day. Whether it’s the way you look at each other with pure happiness, the soft whispers shared only between the two of you, or those fleeting moments that make your elopement uniquely yours — every detail will be framed by the breathtaking city skyline as your backdrop. I love incorporating fun prompts and movement to make your photos feel lively and full of energy.

    The Perfect NYC Elopement Backdrop

With its dramatic and romantic atmosphere, Top of the Rock offers a truly one-of-a-kind experience. The combination of intimacy and the grandeur of New York City makes this observatory a top choice for couples who want their elopement to be both memorable and stunning.

    3. The Brooklyn Bridge: A Breathtaking Elopement Destination in New York City

Lastly, one of my absolute favorites: the Brooklyn Bridge. As one of New York City’s most iconic landmarks, the Brooklyn Bridge offers a stunning, unforgettable backdrop for couples looking for a destination elopement in New York City. With its perfect mix of historic charm, breathtaking architecture, and panoramic views of the city, it’s no wonder the Brooklyn Bridge is a top choice for couples planning their New York City wedding or elopement session.

Why Choose the Brooklyn Bridge for Your Elopement?

Our elopement session was planned for sunrise, and trust me when I say, the glow didn’t disappoint. Early mornings and sunset offer the most magical light, giving your photos a soft, warm, and intimate feel. This “golden hour” light not only provides a romantic atmosphere but also helps you avoid the crowds that often swarm popular locations during peak hours. As a New York City wedding photographer, I can tell you that this iconic bridge creates the perfect environment for couples looking for a dramatic yet intimate elopement backdrop.

    Iconic Views and Timeless Beauty

The Brooklyn Bridge stands as a beautiful fusion of the old and the new, much like the marriage it represents. The contrast between the historic bridge and the modern skyline of Lower Manhattan is one of the most compelling aspects of this location. The Brooklyn Bridge has a timeless quality, making every photograph feel classic and cinematic, no matter the time of day.

Perfect Photography Opportunities for Your Wedding or Elopement

For wedding photography and bridal portraits, the Brooklyn Bridge offers an array of unique angles and perspectives. From the wooden planks and steel cables that create a textured, romantic frame to the sweeping views of the river and city skyline beyond, there are endless opportunities for capturing one-of-a-kind, stunning elopement photos.

The movement and energy of the Brooklyn Bridge also add another layer of excitement to your photos — whether it’s the shifting light across the river or the bustle of pedestrians crossing the bridge in the background (don’t worry, Photoshop can handle that if you’d rather keep your photos crowd-free). If you’re feeling adventurous, the view from either end of the bridge, especially at sunset, will show the city aglow, making for a truly romantic and iconic portrait.

    Symbolism of the Brooklyn Bridge

The Brooklyn Bridge connects the boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn, symbolizing new beginnings, growth, and the journey ahead — making it the perfect setting for couples about to start their own journey together. Whether you choose to exchange vows directly on the bridge or have your first dance on the nearby waterfront with the bridge in the background, you’re guaranteed an elopement in NYC that’s big, bold, and unforgettable.

    Words I Live by

    Let's Connect

Being a Wedding Photographer wasn't always the plan...
I was (and still am) a special education teacher—someone who spends her weekdays in classrooms, not studios. But somewhere along the way, I picked up a camera and fell hard for the way it let me see people. The way it let me slow down and pay attention to the things that matter: connection, movement, emotion, joy that doesn't need to be posed.

Now, I photograph weddings and couples with that same lens—chasing honest moments, big energy, and the kind of photos that feel like memories.

I didn’t build this business to be booked and busy every waking moment. I built it so I could do what I love and still be home for dinner, still be present with my family, still have space for the life I live outside of work. The balance this world brings me means I show up with INTENTION. With ENERGY. With fresh eyes and an open heart—every freaking time for you.

If you're looking for a photographer who’s not just clocking in but actually cares—you’re in the right place.

    I'm Rachel.
